Construction in parts of the city center, which are of historical importance, will be prohibited within two weeks. It is envisaged in the program, approved by the municipal council of the capital, that the historical center of the city is to be nominated as a world heritage of UNESCO. In 2011 is envisaged Sofia to apply and if the approved program is complied with and implemented, parts of the center of the capital will be declared world cultural heritage.
